Appeal of the Main State Traffic Police Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs to the most vulnerable road users

15.03.2023
One of the main causes of traffic accidents involving cyclists is non-compliance with safety rules when using this type of vehicle. The fact that 16 people died and 15 people were injured in 29 road traffic accidents involving cyclists over the past year indicates a rather high severity of these types of accidents.
Since we know that the use of a bicycle is beneficial in terms of the environment, economy and health, we must not forget that the cyclist is one of the most vulnerable road users.

According to the requirements of the legislation, cyclists must move along special cycle paths, and in their absence, along the edge of the carriageway or roadside, they must not carry goods or passengers that interfere with traffic, and the bicycle must be technically sound and properly equipped. In addition, cyclists must wear safety helmets, know and follow the rules of the road, take measures to ensure that other road users can see them clearly, especially at night or in conditions of limited visibility, and not endanger themselves and others.
